Alejandro Artacho is the co-founder and CEO of Spotahome. He was selected as an Endeavor Entrepreneur in July 2019 during the Tokyo ISP.

Alejandro is a global citizen at heart, and has long been passionate about making connections around the world. After majoring in Law and Economics, he moved to China, first to learn Mandarin, but ultimately to try his hand as an entrepreneur. He built two companies, the first an olive oil trading company; and the second, a travel agency. After three years of hands-on experience, weathering the ups and downs of the Asian market and the inevitable obstacles he faced as a first-time founder, Alejandro was ready to return to Europe.

Back in Europe and while building an international job platform to empower human global mobility, he was enticed to work between Lisbon and London in real estate, where he saw the opportunity to disrupt an industry and build a business with high impact. From his experience working in the travel world, Alejandro had witnessed first-hand how technology could entirely transform an industry. He predicted that just as brick-and-mortar travel agencies had dwindled with the rise of online travel booking, the same would happen to real estate agencies. He and his co-founders had worked and traveled around the world before launching the company, and were acutely aware of the pitfalls and frustrations of renting across borders. They wanted to create a platform that made this process as seamless as their other online transactions. Within only two hours of launching Spotahome in 2014, they saw their first booking from a Japanese student studying abroad in Madrid.

Spotahome is a mid- to long-term residential rentals platform that offers the most complete property and room listings for stays above 30 days, bookable exclusively through online viewings which saves tenants and property owners time and money. The company creates the listing at no cost to the landlord – a “Homechecker” visits the property and creates the audio-visual materials including high quality photos, HD video tours, detailed floor plans and honest property and neighbourhood descriptions. It also offers guarantees against default payments and damages. Spotahome is present in 11 cities across 8 countries in Europe. Spotahome is growing rapidly. Since launching in 2014, Spotahome has seen triple digit growth, and the business has attracted international attention, including a $40M Series B round led by Kleiner Perkins, marking the first major Silicon Valley investment in a Spanish company.
