Enric Asuncion

  • Current company Wallbox

Enric Asuncion is the co-founder and CEO of Wallbox. He was selected as an Endeavor Entrepreneur in August 2019 during the ISP celebrated in Quito (Ecuador).

Enric’s fascination with technology stemmed from his grandfather, former CEO of the Spanish manufacturer España Industrial. Enric’s deep respect for his grandfather’s business instilled in him a love for building things, which persisted after the company went bankrupt when he was a young man. Undeterred, Enric began enterprises of his own, beginning with a plastic molding company when he was just 16. He later received a B.S. in Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and interned with Catalonia’s Institute for Applied Automotive Research (IDIADA). His first project was to verify that the company’s electrical chargers complied with both Spain’s and the EU’s complicated regulations. Rather than take them apart, Enric designed a device that detected compliance when hooked up to any charger. Impressed by his invention, IDIADA decided to staff him on some of their most important consulting projects with clients such as Nissan. When Tesla expanded into Europe, the company hired Enric as Program Manager for Charging Installations. As he built expertise, he began to realize he could run his own show. In 2015, he took the plunge and left Tesla to start his own business, despite his longtime girlfriend’s wishes. Though she ended up leaving him over the decision, his family threw its support behind him, investing everything that was left from his grandfather’s estate to help seed the business.  Armed with a 3D rendering of what would become Wallbox’s first product, Enric set out to test the market. After Endesa, Spain’s largest utility, signed on as their first client after a single meeting, Enric realized the potential of his idea. Immediately after that meeting, Enric formally co-founded the business with just $112K.
