Juan Pablo Nebrara is the co-founder and CEO of Brooklyn Fitboxing. He was selected as an Endeavor Entrepreneur in September 2019 during the Atlanta ISP.
Juan Pablo grew up in a middle-class family where he learned the values of hard work and self-improvement, which he attributes to his entrepreneurial drive. He studied industrial engineering at Universidad Pontificia de Comillas and began his career as a consultant, spending three years at Oliver Wyman before deciding to move in a different career direction. He left to receive an MBA from INSEAD and then opened his first entrepreneurial venture with a classmate. As a former semi-professional football player, he had a passion for exercise and the two chose to open a women’s gym, 30-minute fitness, growing it to a system of 30 franchised locations throughout Spain.
Pablo learned many lessons from his first experience in fitness franchising. Critical among these, the importance of a unique value proposition, consistent operations, and a strong brand to create a powerful franchise system. In January 2014 Pablo had a new idea for a fitness franchise incorporating those lessons. He knew a large barrier to working out was how much fun you could have and wanted to build an experience that would be both a great workout and enjoyable. He remodeled an old 30-minute fitness location and began beta testing of his new concept. He developed a franchise operations manual, proprietary business management software, and attracted the investment of Argentine boxing champion Sergio Maravilla Martinez to help develop the brand.
Brooklyn Fitboxing is a franchised boutique fitness concept which combines music, non-contact boxing, and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) in a way that is approachable and fun for all levels. Each class is led by certified trainer, assisted by a video display that shows the exercises, and the scorings of each fitboxer. The patented system incorporates high-tech sensors in each bag that track synchronization, power, and calories burned for instant feedback and some healthy competition. It takes the atmosphere a step further with gamification, offering tournaments, a World Championship, and other events across the entire system. With 130 franchises and 50K customers across 11 countries in Europe, Lat-Am, US, and Africa, Brooklyn Fitboxing is quickly growing in the $9.5B boutique fitness industry.
